CAMINO A MIS ANCESTROS

Carolina realizó un trabajo interno, de memoria, que le permitió indagar sobre sus antepasados: su origen o casta en el pueblo Kawésqar. Así comenzó su viaje al sur de Chile, donde buscó reconstruir esta memoria.

Parte de los cuestionamientos o juicios de valor en proyectos que contemplan genealogías, es sobre la capacidad genética, la congruencia, la relación del autor con el objeto de estudio. La búsqueda de Carolina Agüero no se centra en la clasificación, vista como práctica occidental clásica que habla de la superioridad del humano. La visión de la artista presenta un espacio común donde la naturaleza, la autora y la imagen se conectan de manera horizontal, preguntándose qué hay más allá de ello, conectándose con el espíritu universal. El camino que recorre se desprende de estas articulaciones y estructuras, basando su investigación en procesos mayormente encarnados y experiencias vividas en procesos anteriores en la búsqueda del territorio, acercándose desde la soledad en una conexión real, no mediada, que se traduce en un cambio de percepción, sentido y pertenencia, acercándose más que a una cultura, a un territorio y a un paisaje. Destacan en el proceso:

-La experiencia en Nahuelbuta: encuentro con un árbol antropomórfico, encuentro con la naturaleza, visiones, el 2015.

-Experiencia en Isla Laitec: encuentro con la caverna, experiencia de memoria, y fijación mediante imágenes, de la costumbre de las comunidades indígenas.

Carolina carried out an internal, memory-based process that allowed her to explore her ancestors—her origins or lineage within the Kawésqar people. This marked the beginning of her journey to the south of Chile, where she sought to reconstruct this memory.

Part of the questioning or value judgments in projects involving genealogies centers around genetic capacity, coherence, and the relationship between the author and the subject of study. Carolina Agüero’s search does not focus on classification, which is seen as a classical Western practice that speaks of human superiority. The artist’s vision presents a common space where nature, the author, and the image connect in a horizontal manner, asking what lies beyond, and connecting with the universal spirit.

The path she takes breaks away from these articulations and structures, grounding her research in largely embodied processes and experiences lived in earlier stages of her territorial search. She approaches this from solitude, through a real and unmediated connection, which results in a shift in perception, meaning, and belonging—drawing her closer not to a specific culture, but to a territory and a landscape. Key moments in the process include:

• The experience in Nahuelbuta: an encounter with an anthropomorphic tree, an encounter with nature, visions, in 2015.

• The experience on Laitec Island: an encounter with a cave, an experience of memory, and the recording—through images—of the traditions of Indigenous communities.
