The MIRA Safety Tactical Level IV Body Armor Plate is a stand-alone, multi-curve, Shooter's Cut hard plate measuring 10" x 12" (254 x 305 mm) and weighing 7.7 lb (3.5 kg). NIJ Certified at Level IV, it defeats armor-piercing rifle rounds as a stand-alone plate — no soft armor backer required. A hybrid ceramic and ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) construction holds thickness to 0.83 in (21 mm) while delivering multi-hit performance across a documented range of lead-core, mild steel core, enhanced-performance, and armor-piercing threats. Available as a single plate; purchase two for full front-and-rear coverage.
At Level IV, these plates meet the highest NIJ protection standard, designed specifically to defeat armor-piercing rifle threats that defeat all lower protection levels. The ceramic strike face absorbs and defeats the projectile on initial impact; the UHMWPE backer captures residual fragments and suppresses spall, so bullet fragments are contained rather than creating secondary projectiles that could injure the face or limbs.
Multi-hit capability is verified across multiple calibers and threat types. Unlike many ceramic plates that crack and fail after a single impact, the hybrid ceramic/UHMWPE construction maintains integrity through repeated hits at the shot counts documented in testing. Extensive testing demonstrates the plate's ability to defeat multiple armor-piercing rounds across various calibers and velocities.

The Shooter's Cut configuration removes material from the upper corners of the plate, opening up the shoulder zone for a natural rifle stock weld and unrestricted arm movement. The multi-curve profile follows the three-dimensional contour of the torso — not just a single left-to-right bend — so the plate sits flush against the chest rather than bridging at the sternum or pinching at the sides.
The hybrid construction combines a ceramic strike face with a UHMWPE backer bonded into a single 0.83-inch plate. A CORDURA nylon wrap provides water resistance and mechanical durability. The rear label includes threat level, defense capability, manufacture date, and other key data in a clear, easy-to-read format.
UHMWPE plates must not be exposed to temperatures above 150°F for prolonged periods. Extended exposure to extreme heat can compromise the plate's integrity and reduce protective capability. Store in a cool, dry, dark location away from high-heat sources. Replace the plate if it shows visible damage or signs of wear that could affect protection.
At 10" x 12" in Shooter's Cut, these plates fit any standard medium plate carrier with a 10x12 plate pocket. No soft armor backer is required to achieve the rated Level IV performance. If your carrier accepts Shooter's Cut geometry — the most common configuration in modern plate carriers — these plates integrate directly. Contact us if you need confirmation on a specific carrier fitment.
Yes. These plates are NIJ Certified at Level IV. The certification process involves testing at US laboratories against NIJ threat protocols, including armor-piercing rifle rounds, and ongoing compliance checks to verify reliable performance.
Level IV is the highest NIJ protection standard and is designed to defeat armor-piercing rifle threats. These plates are tested against M193, M855/SS109, M855A1, M67, M43, M80, M61, AP M2, B-32 API, and additional variants — see the full ballistic performance tables above for round-by-round velocity and shot-count data.
Level III is rated for 7.62x51 mm M80 ball. Level III+ is a vendor-designated special threat rating that typically adds M855 and M855A1 coverage beyond the Level III standard but is not an official NIJ designation. Level IV is the highest NIJ standard and adds tested performance against armor-piercing rounds such as 7.62x63 mm AP M2 — threats that defeat both Level III and Level III+ plates.
No. These are stand-alone plates. They achieve full Level IV protection independently, without requiring a soft armor vest or IIIA backer behind them. This contrasts with ICW (In Conjunction With) plates, which must be paired with soft armor to reach their rated protection level.
Traditional steel and ceramic Level IV plates typically weigh 8 to 13+ pounds each. These hybrid ceramic/UHMWPE plates come in at 7.7 lb (3.5 kg) per plate — lighter than many Level III configurations — while still meeting Level IV certification requirements.
These plates cannot be shipped to New York or Connecticut due to state body armor restrictions. US-only shipping applies; international orders are not available for this product.
