The Armored Republic Padded Side Plate Pouches give any MOLLE or Velcro cummerbund the ability to carry 6" x 6" or 6" x 8" steel, ceramic, or polyethylene side plates. Weighing 1 lb per pair and measuring 6.5 x 6.37 x 1 inches, the pouches mount flush to the sides of a plate carrier to address the lateral and oblique threat exposure that front and back plates leave uncovered. Available in Black, Coyote, Multicam, and Olive Drab, each set ships with a pair of color-matched MALICE CLIPS.
The pouches mount to any MOLLE-compatible or Velcro-based plate carrier cummerbund using the included MALICE CLIPS. The wrap-around design is compatible with most existing and new cummerbund configurations. Each pouch accepts side plates up to 6" x 8"; the smaller 6" x 6" format also fits. Steel, ceramic, and polyethylene armor are all supported.
Side plate fit along the torso is height-dependent. The 6" x 8" plate format places 8 inches of coverage vertically and can press into the armpit on shorter frames. The 6" x 8" size is recommended for wearers 6 feet tall or taller; those under 6 feet typically find the 6" x 6" format more comfortable.
Side plates protect the same vital organs covered by a front and back plate — they extend that protection to lateral and oblique angles. Modern close-quarters and vehicle doctrine places shooters in positions where the sides of the body are exposed. These pouches close that gap by adding a modular ballistic pocket to any cummerbund that does not already include integral side plate sleeves.
The pouch features meshed padding on the interior for comfort and increased ventilation, keeping the profile slender even with a plate installed. The wrap-around retention design holds the plate securely without adding unnecessary bulk to the carrier system.
These pouches mount to any MOLLE-compatible or Velcro-based cummerbund. They accept 6" x 6" or 6" x 8" side plates in steel, ceramic, or polyethylene. Check your existing cummerbund for MOLLE webbing or Velcro attachment surface before ordering; if you are unsure whether your carrier is compatible, contact us before ordering.
It depends on your use case. Head-on presentation maximizes front and back plate coverage, so for static or range-style scenarios the added weight may not be warranted. For vehicle operations and room-clearing, where your sides are regularly exposed, side armor is recommended. Many law enforcement and military users consider side plates standard kit for those environments.
The 6" x 8" format provides more vertical coverage but can cause discomfort in the armpit for wearers under 6 feet tall. The 6" x 6" format suits most body types and is the more common choice for everyday carry. If you are 6 feet or taller, the 6" x 8" is generally comfortable.
Side plates seat inside a cummerbund — either in integral pouches built into the cummerbund itself, or in add-on pouches like these attached via MOLLE or Velcro. The pouches position the plate along the lower rib and kidney zone on each side of the torso.
No. The pouches are sold as a pair without plates. Side plates are available separately. Contact us if you need help matching a plate to these pouches.
Side plates protect the same vital organs covered by front and back plates — heart, lungs, liver, and spleen — from shots or blast fragments attacking from the side or at an oblique angle. They do not replace front and back coverage; they extend the protected zone to angles a standard two-plate setup cannot address.
