Description:
Another "Macbeth" on CD for the first time in the world! The Paris version of Verdi's "Macbeth" sung in French premiered in Florence in 1847, and 17 years later, in 1864, when a Parisian promoter asked Verdi to create a French version of "Macbeth," he completed the score with a major revision of the premiere version, adding ballet music. The Paris version, based on the Italian libretto with a new text written by the librettist Piave, has remained the definitive version of "Macbeth" to this day. On the other hand, the premiere of the Paris version at the Théâtre Lyrique in 1865 was sung from a script translated into French. However, the Paris version in French was never performed again, having lost popularity to the Paris Opera's premiere of Maierbeer's last work, "The African Woman". The French version of "Macbeth" heard on this CD at the 20th Verdi Festival in Parma in September 2020 was performed in concert format as an attempt to revive the Paris premiere of the work in its original form more than 150 years later. The title role of Macbeth is sung by the famous French baritone Ludovic Tézier.Silvia Dalla Benetta, who plays Lady Macbeth who leads her husband to ruin, responds to her dramatic singing by singing the ambition and anguish of a man tossed by fate in a beautiful voice with luster and depth. Enjoy another "Macbeth" in which the lively music from the baton of Roberto Abbado, a master opera singer who has worked extensively in Italian opera, is matched exquisitely with the soft sound of the French singing.
