Palestrina (c.1525-1594)
Description:
The Sixteen's Palestrina! Volume 8 is "Missa Fratres ego enim accepi"!Celebrating their 40th anniversary in 2019, The Sixteen are the pride and joy of the British choral world. The Palestrina Project, which has become a major series representing The Sixteen today, is now available in its latest release, "The Eighth Collection"! This superb project consists of a program of Mass pieces selected by Harry Christophers from among the more than 100 Mass pieces left by Palestrina, as well as three pieces from a collection of linked motets based on the Old Testament "Song of Solomon" and related imnus and motets. Volume 8 is a program centered around the Mass "Brethren, that I have received from the Lord" (Missa Fratres ego enim aczepi) from the 13th volume of the "Mass Book" published in 1601, with the theme of the Last Supper and the sacrifice of Christ on the cross. A parody mass based on an eight-voice motet of his own composition, it is one of Palestrina's grandest and most wonderful masses, presented in the world acclaimed polyphony of The Sixteen.
