Mone Quintet
Description:
The Versatile Appeal of the Wind Ensemble Restored by Paul TaffanelThe Monet Quintet, composed of five talented young musicians, each of whom is a principal player in a prominent orchestra, dedicates this disc to Paul Taffanel (1844-1908), a composer who devoted himself to the restoration of the wind ensemble! The colorful combination of flute, oboe, clarinet, horn, and bassoon was a popular composition at the 18th century court, but gradually sank into oblivion after the French Revolution and the aristocratic decline that followed. Tufanel founded the Society for Woodwind Chamber Music with the aim of reviving the music of the past. This album celebrates the restoration of Taffanel's quintet with a diverse collection of quintets, including the highly difficult Francais (five woodwind players of the Orchestre National de France were "locked up" for several months to practice at the time) and Holst's works of outstanding lyrical beauty.
