The ZWO AM7 Harmonic Equatorial Mount is a high-capacity, strain-wave driven mount designed for advanced astrophotography and demanding visual observing. Positioned above the AM5 in ZWO’s harmonic mount range, the AM7 delivers significantly higher payload capacity while retaining the compact, counterweight-free advantages of harmonic drive technology.
With support for larger optical tubes, longer focal lengths, and full imaging trains, the AM7 is ideal for astrophotographers who require maximum rigidity, tracking stability, and flexibility in both portable and semi-permanent setups.

The AM7 offers exceptional load capacity for a mount of its size. Thanks to its strain-wave harmonic drive system, it can operate without counterweights for highly portable imaging setups, or with counterweights installed when supporting heavier telescopes.

With a capacity of up to 20 kg without counterweights or 30 kg with counterweights, the AM7 is well suited to large refractors, imaging Newtonians, and complex camera setups.

Compared to the AM5 and AM3, the AM7 is designed for users who need additional payload margin, improved rigidity, and better performance at longer focal lengths. It is the natural upgrade path for astrophotographers pushing beyond compact refractor systems.

At the core of the AM7 is a custom strain-wave harmonic drive system with a total reduction ratio of 300:1. Each mount is individually tested before shipping and supplied with its own measured periodic error report.
Periodic error is maintained within ±10 arcseconds, delivering stable guided performance and reliable unguided tracking for appropriate imaging configurations.

No. The AM7 can operate without counterweights up to 20 kg, or up to 30 kg with counterweights installed.
Yes. The AM7 supports both equatorial and alt-azimuth modes, making it suitable for visual and imaging use.
The AM7 offers higher payload capacity and increased rigidity, making it better suited to larger telescopes and heavier imaging systems.
