1972 saw Ferrari's major assault on the World SportsCar Championship after the disappointment of the 512 v 917 battles. The new regulations specified prototypes with a max engine capacity of 3 litres. Enter the 312PB - the B standing for 'boxer' - a flat 12 derived from the 1970 312B F1 engine. The car dominated the 1972 championship after winning the first race in Buenos Aires as depicted here. The car was driven by Ronnie Peterson and Tim Schenken.
