Description:
Guitarist Bill Frisell, who performed in Japan in January 2017 as a member of Charles Lloyd & The Marvels and whose new album "When You Wish Upon a Star", themed on the music of Hollywood movies/TV shows from the 1950s and 1960s, is also well received, is a young and upcoming member of the "When You Wish Upon a Star" sessions. The duo was recorded live at the Village Vanguard in New York City in March 2016. Bill Frisell released his ECM leader debut, "In Line," in 1983, and it was a pleasant surprise that he developed his own unique sound that is unique among all modern guitarists. In addition to his leadership work, he also participated in the 2007 album "Time and Time Again" with Paul Motian. The first track on this album is an 11-minute tribute to Motian's later work, "It Should've Happened a Long Time Ago.Another Deyuo member, Thomas Morgan, has also worked with Motian, but he has also participated in ECM with Tomasz Stanko, Jakob Bro, David Virelles, Giovanni Guidi, and Masabumi Kikuchi, among others. Frisère first met California-born Morgan in the 1990s. I was just a kid, but I was very impressed," he said. We did a session together afterwards with drummer Kenny Wollesen as the leader, and along the way, the bass notes he played seemed so present and right. I thought so even though Thomas was about 15 meters away in a big studio. That surprised me. And then we played together on Paul Motian's last session. So Paul and his music are very special to both of us. This intimacy came from having Thomas in some of my groups. Thomas seems to be able to travel in time and see beyond the music. He sees and understands the music before he plays it.He never plays anything that isn't the answer for me to play, and he foresees me in the moment. His support really frees me up and lets me play freely." Frisère said. Thomas and I are very similar, we are very quiet. I play guitar, but that's my real voice. I think Thomas is the same way. I think Thomas is the same way. Playing bass is a very natural way to express myself. I was about to steal a phrase from saxophonist Charles Lloyd when he said to me before the gig, "I look forward to singing with you. I'm looking forward to singing with you. And he says, "I'm looking forward to singing with you. I think of Thomas the way Lloyd thinks of me. He plays like he sings, whether it's a Fats Domino song or an abstract song, the energy comes from the same Thomas. And a big thumbs up! From Frisell originals to tributes to living legends Lee Konitz, Andrew Cyrille, and more! Closing out the show is John Barry's hit Bond theme song, "Goldfinger."
