Pin material (Nylon-Covered Steel Cable): Nylon coating protects the steel cable from abrasion, corrosion, and debris. The nylon also grips the fastener loops to reduce hinge pin migration. Used for permanent installations where the pin rarely needs to be withdrawn.

How to select: Hinge pins are selected based on three factors: (1) the fastener size (R-2 through RC-8 for Riv-Nail, X375/X550 for Hinged Plategrip), (2) the belt width (pin length must span the full belt width plus loop engagement), and (3) the application environment (abrasion, corrosion, or permanence). Bare-cable or armored-cable hinge pins are used when pins need to be frequently withdrawn, or when materials are abrasive. Nylon-coated and nylon-armored pins are used when pins stay in place permanently.

Installation: Thread the hinge pin through the assembled fastener loops at the splice. Verify the pin extends the full belt width with proper engagement on both edges. Cut excess length if specified by the fastener system.
