The latest offering from Fever Ray, the solo project of one-half of the Knife, Karin Dreijer is a delightfully eccentric synthpop record that lays down memorable hooks just as often as it delivers something wholly individual. Spacey, dynamic and peculiar, this is a pop album that simultaneously feels unashamed in its popness while delivering aesthetics that land somewhere between dubstep, ambient and East Asian classical. Their unusual vocals also bring an otherworldliness to proceedings, and it results in a sonic cocktail that works way better than it has any real right to.
