The HighCom Armor 3s15m is a multi-curve, multi-shot-rated Level III+ hard armor plate built entirely from 100% DSM Dyneema® UHMWPE and manufactured through HighCom's proprietary XTclave™ ultra-high-pressure consolidation process. Independently tested at an NVLAP-accredited, NIJ-approved laboratory against NIJ Standard 0101.06 threat parameters, the 3s15m stops 7.62mm M80 ball, 7.62x39mm mild steel core, and 5.56x45mm M193 as a standalone plate. The 10x12 Shooter configuration weighs just 1.79 lbs, making it one of the lightest multi-threat-capable hard plates in its class. Available in six sizes from XS SAPI (7.25x11.5") through XL SAPI (11x14"), plus a 10x12 Shooter Cut.
The 3s15m is rated for Level III+ stand-alone protection against high-velocity rifle rounds. The XTclave™ manufacturing process applies ultra-high pressure to 100% DSM Dyneema® UHMWPE composite layers, producing a plate with an areal density of 2.72 psf (13.29 kg/m²) and a thickness of just 0.83 inches (21 mm). Because the plate is UHMWPE-only construction with no ceramic strike face, there is no ceramic fragmentation on impact — the plate relies entirely on the energy-absorbing properties of the Dyneema® fiber matrix.
Multi-shot capability is built into the design. The plate has been independently tested at an NVLAP-accredited, NIJ-approved laboratory to meet or exceed the ballistic resistance specified under NIJ Standard 0101.06. The threat coverage extends beyond the standard NIJ Level III (7.62mm M80) to include 7.62x39mm mild steel core and 5.56x45mm M193 — both classified as special threats under NIJ 0101.06.
| Standard | Weapon type | Projectile | Grain | Velocity (ft/s) | Tolerance (ft/s) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| NIJ 0101.06 | Rifle | 7.62mm FMJ Steel Jacketed (M80) | 147 | 2,780 | ±30 |
| Special Threat | Rifle | 7.62x39mm Mild Steel Core | 123 | 2,400 | ±50 |
| Special Threat | Rifle | 5.56x45mm M193 | 55 | 3,250 | ±50 |
All 3s15m configurations use a multi-curve profile for a closer anatomical fit against the torso compared to flat or single-curve plates. The Shooter Cut (10x12") provides extended lower coverage suited to most commercial plate carrier cummerbund configurations. The SAPI cuts (XS through XL) follow standard military sizing and drop into SAPI-compatible plate pockets in both HighCom plate carriers and compatible overt or tactical vests. The 10x12 Shooter is considered nominal 9.5x11.5" dimensions per the product specification. The exterior cover is 1000D CORDURA® textured nylon on all configurations.
The 3s15m fits into the rifle plate pocket of HighCom plate carriers, tactical vests, and any compatible overt carrier with the appropriate plate pocket dimensions. The multi-curve geometry seats closely against the torso in most standard cummerbund-style carriers. SAPI-cut sizes follow established military plate pocket sizing, so any carrier spec'd for SAPI plates accommodates the corresponding 3s15m SAPI variant. For Shooter Cut configurations, verify your carrier's plate pocket accepts the 10x12" nominal footprint — contact us if you need fitment confirmation for a specific carrier.
The 3s15m is tested against 7.62mm FMJ steel-jacketed M80 at 2,780 ft/s (±30), 7.62x39mm mild steel core at 2,400 ft/s (±50), and 5.56x45mm M193 at 3,250 ft/s (±50). The M80 test corresponds to NIJ 0101.06 Level III. The 7.62x39mm MSC and M193 tests are special threat designations beyond the standard Level III protocol.
The 3s15m has been independently tested at an NVLAP-accredited, NIJ-approved laboratory to meet or exceed NIJ Standard 0101.06 Level III ballistic resistance. This is a testing designation. NIJ Certified status requires active listing on the NIJ Compliant Products List (CPL); confirmed CPL listing status for this specific model should be verified directly with the NIJ CPL at nij.ojp.gov.
NIJ 0101.06 Level III requires a plate to stop 7.62mm FMJ M80 ball at up to 2,780 ft/s. Level III+ is a vendor-designated special threat rating that extends coverage to additional rounds — in this case, 7.62x39mm mild steel core and 5.56x45mm M193 — neither of which is included in the standard NIJ Level III test protocol. The 3s15m passes all three threat tests as a standalone plate.
No. The 3s15m is rated stand-alone, meaning it meets its stated ballistic performance without a soft armor backer. A backer can be added for behind-armor blunt trauma (BABT) mitigation if your carrier supports it, but it is not required for the plate to achieve its tested ballistic rating.
Two 10x12 Shooter plates weigh a combined 3.58 lbs (1.62 kg). That is the plate weight only; add carrier weight for total system weight. The SAPI XL pair at 2.83 lbs each totals 5.66 lbs — still well below comparable ceramic Level IV two-plate setups, which typically run 8–14 lbs for a pair.
HighCom covers all ballistic material on the 3s15m for 5 years from purchase. The exterior CORDURA® cover and workmanship carry a separate 1-year warranty. The warranty does not extend to damage from misuse, modification, or failure to follow HighCom's storage, use, and care instructions.
The 3s15m cannot be shipped to New York or Connecticut due to state body armor restrictions. Sales are limited to lawful U.S. persons under EAR/ITAR export regulations. Under 18 U.S.C. § 931, anyone with a federal felony conviction for a crime of violence is prohibited from purchasing or possessing body armor.
