18th century Italian gold leaf fragment on a selenite slab. It is placed onto a selenite slab. Selenite is a transparent mineral that is a form of gypsum. It was used to create the windows of the Santa Sabina Basilica in Rome, Italy during the 5th century, hence the name "Window Pane Selenite."
