The Guardian Gear Ballistic High Cut Helmet delivers NIJ Level IIIA ballistic protection in an ergonomically designed shell tested by Chesapeake Testing Laboratories. The helmet stops .44 Magnum and 9mm threats and achieves fragmentation resistance across a V50 range of 500–700 m/s. An OCC-DIAL retention system and multi-layer impact-absorbing internal cushion make extended wear practical for law enforcement, security professionals, and prepared civilians. Available in M/L and XL sizing, in Black, Green, and Tan, with a compatible face shield sold separately or as a bundle.
The Guardian Gear Ballistic High Cut Helmet is tested to NIJ Level IIIA threat parameters by Chesapeake Testing Laboratories, an independent ballistic testing facility. At the IIIA level, the helmet is rated to defeat common high-energy handgun rounds including .44 Magnum and 9mm. Fragmentation performance spans a V50 range of 500–700 m/s, providing meaningful protection against fragmenting projectiles in addition to direct handgun threats.
Like all wearable ballistic helmets, this model is not rated for rifle-caliber direct-impact threats. RF3-equivalent (Level IV) protection is not achievable in a wearable helmet form factor. Shooters at range and tactical operators should plan their protective layering accordingly, treating this helmet as handgun and fragmentation defense rather than a rifle-fire solution.
The shell resists water, chemicals, and UV exposure, maintaining ballistic integrity across varied environmental conditions. The construction handles temperature swings, humidity, and elevation changes without degrading the internal cushioning system — a direct result of the impact-absorbing foam and memory foam pad configuration inside the helmet.
An ergonomically designed locking system secures the helmet in position and adjusts without tools. The OCC-DIAL adjustable retention belt dials in a precise fit around the wearer's head, eliminating movement during dynamic activity. Interior padding combines standard impact-absorbing foam with memory foam that conforms to the wearer's head shape over time, creating an impact buffer that remains breathable and stable across environmental variables including temperature, humidity, and elevation change.
External rails on both sides of the shell accept accessory mounts including lights, cameras, and other rail-compatible equipment. The high-cut geometry is designed to fit noise-cancelling headsets and communication devices inside the helmet, keeping them in contact with the ears without interference from the ballistic shell. A compatible face shield is available separately or bundled with the helmet.
The helmet ships in two sizes: M/L and XL. Color options are Black, Green, and Tan. The ACH and Mid Cut profile variants are also available — contact us if you need guidance selecting the right cut or size for your head circumference.
It depends on your state. Body armor purchase restrictions vary by jurisdiction. This helmet cannot be shipped to New York or Connecticut due to state body armor laws. Under 18 U.S.C. § 931, anyone with a federal felony conviction for a crime of violence is prohibited from purchasing or possessing body armor. If you have questions about your state's specific regulations, contact us before ordering.
NIJ Level IIIA is the highest handgun-threat designation in the NIJ ballistic protection framework. At this level, the helmet is tested against high-energy handgun rounds — in this case .44 Magnum and 9mm — at established velocity thresholds. It also provides meaningful fragmentation resistance. IIIA does not cover rifle-caliber direct-impact threats; no wearable production helmet currently achieves rifle-rated (RF3/Level IV) protection.
No. The Guardian Gear Ballistic High Cut Helmet is rated to NIJ Level IIIA for handgun threats and provides fragmentation protection in the V50 500–700 m/s range. Rifle-caliber direct-fire threats exceed what any currently available wearable ballistic helmet can reliably defeat. Plan your protection layering to treat this helmet as handgun and fragmentation coverage only.
The OCC-DIAL is a tool-free dial-fit retention system that tightens or loosens the helmet's interior band to match your exact head circumference. Turning the dial clockwise cinches the band for a secure fit; counterclockwise releases it. Combined with the ergonomic locking system that fixes the helmet's position on the head, the result is a stable platform that resists shifting during movement.
Yes. The high-cut shell geometry is specifically designed to accommodate noise-cancelling headsets and other communication equipment inside the helmet, allowing ear cups to sit flush against the ears. The external rail system also supports additional accessories on the outside of the shell.
The helmet is available in M/L and XL. Measure your head circumference at the widest point — typically about one inch above the eyebrows and around the back of the skull — and contact us if you are between sizes or need help matching your measurement to the right option.
