The veteran German saxophonist, Peter Materna Trio, was born in 1965 and studied classical and jazz saxophone at the University of Music and Performing Arts Cologne and the University of Music and Performing Arts Essen. He started his career in 1988 with a trio and then in 1989 with a quartet, and has been playing with the same group for 20 years. Since then, they have released 11 albums and have established a solid foothold in the German jazz scene. This album was produced at a time when social interaction and cultural life almost came to a halt during the Corona pandemic. He suddenly had more time to realize ideas and plans that had been put on the back burner for so long. For this album, he formed a new trio with bassist Lisa Wulff and drummer Sylvain Strauss. These two musicians were born in the same year 1990 and have won the Hamburg Jazz Prize.The postmodern approach to improvisation, with the saxophone as the main instrument, is the hallmark of the band, and its melodious phrasing is truly warm.
