Aussie Bulldog Liner – Collet Chuck Edition
From the desk of BDF – July 2025
I’ve spent a lot of time reading through the letters between Paul Rogers and Sailor Jerry. They were working machines like instruments—comparing notes, testing setups, solving problems, and sharing results. They weren’t just tattooing, they were building tools to make the job better. Those letters changed how I see machines. I didn’t want to just follow what they figured out—I wanted to keep pushing it. To add something of my own. To master the function and the feel.
This machine—the Aussie Bulldog Liner with a collet chuck—is built from that mindset.
It’s made from A36 steel, CNC machined, and surface ground on all the critical faces. Flat, square, and true. That’s not just shop talk—it’s the difference between a machine that feels locked in and one that feels off. I don’t skip the surface grinding. Precision matters, and if it’s got my name on it, it better be right.
This liner is tuned to hit fast, hard, and clean. I surface grind the front spring to a precise .0185". That gives it a snappy, punchy feel with the power to push bigger groupings, but the control to run a 3 or 5 without causing a blowout. It’s tuned for real-world use—tight lines, walk-ins, bold work, and consistent outlines that hold.
Coils are 1.250", 8-wrap, matched and tuned in-house. The geometry is medium-fast and compact, built around classic Bulldog proportions but tightened up for balance and comfort. It’ll drive 3s to 11s with no hesitation. You can run it high or low depending on your stroke and setup.
What sets this one apart is the collet-style chuck. It’s thicker than standard vises for added longevity, but still flexible enough to handle a wide range of tubes. It clamps down clean and strong without chewing anything up, and best of all—it keeps the wing nut out of your hand. The result is more comfort, less clutter, and a grip that holds steady all day.
As far as feel—it’s balanced. No front-dip, no tail weight. Just smooth, responsive feedback that keeps your hand steady for the whole shift. That matters more than most people think.
This isn’t a reproduction or a retro build. It’s a working machine, designed by a tattooer who understands how it needs to feel and what it needs to do. I’m not just repeating history—I’m building on it.
This machine will run all day and keep up with anything you throw at it.
If you know what you’re doing, it’ll make you faster.
If you don’t, it’ll make you learn.
And if you're still chasing greatness—this one’s built for you.
