BANILA CO's Clean It Zero cleansing balm is a K-beauty icon, one of the original cleansing balms that defined the double-cleanse routine in Western markets. The Calming Gel Cleanser extends that brand authority into the second-cleanse step. Formulated with centella asiatica extract, madecassoside, and a low-pH gel base, it's designed to follow the Clean It Zero balm cleanse without irritating already-sensitized or post-procedure skin.
At $27.04 for 200ml, it's priced at the fair-value end of Korean gel cleansers, roughly equivalent to COSRX's pH Balancing cleanser or Pyunkang Yul's Low pH cleanser. The calming positioning makes it particularly popular with skin that reacts to standard foaming cleansers (sulfate-based surfactants that strip the barrier). The gel lathers lightly, rinses completely, and leaves skin feeling neither tight nor slippery.
The gel base uses mild amino-acid surfactants rather than harsh sulfates, which dissolve remaining sunscreen/makeup residue and sebum without stripping the skin's natural lipids. Centella asiatica (cica) and madecassoside provide anti-inflammatory calming, which is particularly useful for skin in the recovery phase after acids, retinol, or laser treatment. Skin is left clean, hydrated, and slightly softer than before the cleanse.
After oil cleanser (like Clean It Zero balm) or alone for morning cleanse. Pump 2 to 3 presses into damp hands, work into a light lather, massage over face for 30 to 60 seconds, rinse with lukewarm water. Don't exceed a full minute of contact; prolonged cleansing weakens even gentle cleansers. Follow immediately with toner.
For most routines yes. Water-based gel cleansers don't dissolve oil-based sunscreen or makeup effectively. Double cleansing (oil first, then this gel) remains the standard for anyone wearing SPF or makeup.
Yes. The formula is mild enough for morning and night. If your skin feels dry after, switch to water-only rinse in the morning and keep this for PM.
The foam is more traditional, heavier lather, slightly stronger cleansing. The gel is gentler, less foamy, better for sensitive skin. Similar centella positioning. For very oily skin, foam. For sensitive or dry-combination, gel.
Light makeup yes; heavier makeup (waterproof, full coverage foundation) no. Use the Clean It Zero balm first for makeup removal, then this gel as the second cleanse.
2 to 3 months with once-daily PM use, 6 weeks with twice-daily use. Good value per ml for a daily cleanser.
