The Citizen Armor Armored 3-Ring Binder is a fully functional 3-ring binder with an integrated NIJ HG2 Level IIIA ballistic panel that extends to an 11" x 21" shield of coverage. Designed for working professionals, students, and teachers who need discreet, everyday ballistic protection without drawing attention, it stops 44 Mag, 357 Sig, 357 Mag, 45 ACP, .40 Cal, 9mm, .38 Special, and comparable handgun threats. Built in the USA and available in Standard (NIJ HG2 IIIA) and Prestige (NIJ HG2 IIIA) armor configurations, it ships in black ballistic nylon.
The ballistic panel inside the Armored 3-Ring Binder carries an NIJ HG2 Level IIIA threat rating, the highest handgun-rated designation under NIJ 0101.06. At that level, the panel is rated to defeat 44 Magnum, 357 SIG, 357 Magnum, 45 ACP, .40 Cal, 9mm, and .38 Special rounds, along with comparable handgun threats. The panel extends to 11" x 21" of ballistic coverage when deployed — enough to protect the torso when held in front of the body or hung over the head via the retractable handles. This shield does not protect against rifle-caliber threats.
The retractable handles pull out to allow the binder to hang over the head for hands-free use, leaving both hands available. For hasty retreats, the handles flip to the back so the binder can be gripped and carried quickly. The compact folded form factor keeps it flat and portable in a bag, briefcase, or under an arm, and the magnetic closure system keeps organizational pockets secure during movement.
Because the binder functions as a working office product first, there is no external ballistic marking or tactical appearance. It holds a standard 1" three-ring binder mechanism with organizational pockets, making it suitable for carrying documents, notebooks, or folders. The black ballistic nylon exterior blends into professional and academic settings without attracting notice. The Standard and Prestige armor configurations both carry the NIJ HG2 IIIA designation — contact us for details on the differences between the two build tiers.
It cannot be shipped to New York or Connecticut due to state body armor restrictions. It is subject to US export regulations. Under 18 U.S.C. § 931, anyone with a federal felony conviction for a crime of violence is prohibited from purchasing or possessing body armor.
NIJ HG2 Level IIIA under NIJ 0101.06 — the highest handgun-rated designation in the NIJ standard. Both the Standard and Prestige configurations carry this designation. It covers 44 Magnum, 357 SIG, 357 Mag, 45 ACP, .40 Cal, 9mm, and .38 Special, along with comparable handgun calibers.
No. The NIJ HG2 IIIA rating covers handgun threats only. Rifle-caliber rounds, including 5.56x45 and 7.62x39, exceed the rated threat level of this panel. For rifle-rated protection, a hard armor plate is required.
The retractable handles pull out and allow the binder to hang over the head, freeing both hands. For movement, the handles fold to the back so the binder can be gripped at the side. Deployment is designed to be fast, requiring no tools or additional equipment.
Both configurations carry the NIJ HG2 IIIA threat rating. The Standard and Prestige tiers differ in construction details. Contact us for a full breakdown of what distinguishes the two build levels before placing your order.
