American contemporary composer Locklair. This album presents four recent works by this energetic newcomer. All of the works have had their world premieres in North Carolina, a state with which he is closely associated. The three movements of "America," written for a trio of wind symphony orchestras, are each themed around an American holiday, and the melodies associated with each are played loud and proud. Coming Day" taken from a speech by Robert Gray, mayor of Winston-Salem in the 1860s; "Concerto," derived from the words for God (GOD) and dog (DOG); and "Phoenix," an extended three-minute fanfare.
