Iceland is a land where ancient folklore and the raw beauty of nature intertwine, creating an atmosphere charged with mystery and magic. As I stood alone on the shores of Reynisfjara beach, I felt the presence of these old tales in every gust of wind and crash of the waves. My goal was to capture not just the landscape, but the essence of the sea—the same sea that has been a lifeline for Icelanders for over a millennium.

To create the ethereal, almost otherworldly atmosphere, I waited deep into the night until the Midnight Sun dipped low enough to cast long shadows over the ocean. The delicate balance of light and dark at this hour allowed me to capture the spray of the waves in a golden mist, contrasting against the deep, brooding tones of the landscape. This photograph encapsulates the duality of Iceland’s magic: the enchanting beauty and the ominous power of nature.

Reynisfjara, Iceland’s iconic black sand beach on the South Coast, is a place where the land meets the fury of the Atlantic Ocean. Towering above the dark sands are the basalt sea stacks known as Reynisdrangar, which, according to local folklore, were once trolls turned to stone by the rising sun. The rugged cliffs, dramatic rock formations, and relentless waves create a scene that feels almost otherworldly.
