Jimmy Smith
Description:
Jimmy Smith, who established the soul-jazz style as a Hammond organist, released more than five albums a year in the late 1950s, and his original playing style fascinated the world. Now, at last, a rare performance of Jimmy Smith from 1969 is available! This album is a recording of the concert held in Paris on December 1, 1969, and includes "A Date With Jimmy Smith Volume One" and "A Date With Jimmy Smith Volume Two" released in 1957, and "The Sermon! Eddie McFadden, who played guitar on about a dozen albums in two years, including "Sermon!" released in 1958, and Charlie Crosby, who also played drums on albums by jazz and blues guitarist B.B. King, are backing the band. The band performs a variety of standards, including blues numbers and soundtrack tunes for movies. This is a valuable archive of the band's performances prior to their hiatus, as they were inactive for nearly 10 years in the 1970s.
