Function

CaliberX side panels use a hybrid of UHMWPE and para-aramid fibers to absorb and disperse bullet energy along the molecular structure of each fiber, catching the projectile in a multi-layer web of advanced fabric. The layup progressively transfers impact energy to underlying layers, reducing back-face deformation and the blunt-force trauma it causes. The interior construction is sewn together for longevity rather than relying on heat bonding or adhesive methods that can degrade over time.

The system achieves protection against high-performance handgun rounds including the .44 Magnum, .357 Sig, and 9mm while using less material than legacy soft armor constructions. CaliberX delivers 10% less weight and 15% less back-face deformation than other commercially available soft armor systems at the same threat level. The areal density of 1 lb per sq ft represents the gold standard target for IIIA-rated soft armor.

NIJ designation

These panels are tested and verified to meet or exceed ballistic resistance as specified under NIJ Standard-0101.06 Level IIIA and NIJ Standard-0101.07 HG2. Both designations cover handgun threats up to and including .44 Magnum. These panels do not provide protection against rifle-caliber threats.

What does this accessory work with?

Is this panel NIJ-rated on its own?

Yes. Each panel is independently tested and verified to meet or exceed NIJ STD-0101.06 Level IIIA and NIJ STD-0101.07 HG2 threat requirements. The rating applies to the panel itself, not to the carrier or bag it is inserted into.

Will these panels stop rifle rounds?

No. Level IIIA/HG2 is a handgun-rated designation. These panels stop threats up to and including .44 Magnum but do not provide protection against rifle-caliber ammunition. For rifle-threat coverage, hard armor plates rated Level III or higher are required.

Does this add weight and coverage, or just coverage?

Both. Each panel adds lateral ballistic coverage at the sides, and the pair adds weight proportional to the panel size at an areal density of 1 lb per sq ft. At 1/4" thick, the profile increase inside a cummerbund sleeve is minimal. CaliberX is 10% lighter than comparable soft armor systems at the same threat level.

Can I use this without a primary armor plate?

Yes, in applications where a carrier is not involved — backpacks, briefcases, and bags. For plate carrier use, these panels supplement, rather than replace, front and rear hard or soft armor. Running side panels without any front or rear coverage leaves the torso's primary threat axis unprotected.

Can this be shipped to my state?

These panels cannot be shipped to New York or Connecticut due to state body armor restrictions. The panels are subject to US export regulations. Under 18 U.S.C. § 931, anyone with a federal felony conviction for a crime of violence is prohibited from purchasing or possessing body armor.
