The fourth album by guitarist Dan Wilson, whose mentor is Joey DeFrancesco, released on Christian McBride's Brother Mister Productions label. This is the fourth album by Dan Wilson, a guitarist whose mentor is Joey DeFrancesco. In terms of releases on Christian McBride's Brother Mister Productions, this is his second, following 2021's "Vessels of Wood and Earth. The title is taken from the hymn "Hold to God's Unchanging Hand," a hymn of comfort in times of trial. Dan Wilson hails from Akron, Ohio, and from a musical family. Strongly influenced by jazz as well as Motown and gospel music, he spent most of his youth in the church community and, as is typical, decided to pursue a career in music.As soon as he began to make his presence felt in both the Pittsburgh and Cleveland scenes, he caught the eye of his mentor Joey DeFrancesco, who favored him solely as a favorite, touring with him as a band member. Amidst a series of unfortunate events, including the deaths of both of his grandparents, his mentor Joey DeFrancesco, and his father's stroke, he produced this work with the intention of "mourning" his "loss. Christian McBride, another mentor, co-produced the film. The repertoire reflects his extremely personal tastes, including pop songs by The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, and Sting; jazz classics by McCoy Tyner, Freddie Hubbard, Michael Brecker, and Herbie Hancock; and songs by local artist Philip K. Jones, II. The repertoire is skillfully curated. The omnivorous nature of the music, similar to that of Christian McBride and Joey DeFrancesco, is a delight to behold.
