MediHoney® Gel dressing is a moist dressing made of Active Leptospermum Honey (+15) in combination with natural gelling agents. The gelling agents act to maintain the physical integrity and viscosity of the dressing, even in the presence of body heat and fluids. As a percentage of the overall dressing, MediHoney® Gel dressing contains 80% honey. The dressing has a low pH and can help to lower the overall pH of wounds. The dressing also possesses a high osmotic potential, which assists in debridement. MediHoney® Gel assists in maintaining a moist environment for optimal wound healing.

Indications:
Under the supervision of a healthcare professional, MediHoney® Gel with Active Leptospermum Honey dressing provides a moist environment conducive to wound healing and is indicated for non-draining to moderately exuding wounds such as: 

• Diabetic foot ulcers
• Leg ulcers (venous stasis ulcers, arterial ulcers and leg ulcers of mixed etiology)
• Pressure ulcers/sores (partial and full thickness)
• 1st and 2nd degree partial thickness burns
• Donor sites, and traumatic and surgical wounds

Contraindications: 
Contraindicated for use on individuals with an allergy to honey, on third-degree burns or to control heavy bleeding.

Warnings and Precautions:

1. Some patients may notice slight transient stinging. If sting does not stop or cannot be managed with analgesic, remove dressing and cleanse area.
2. An increase in exudate may occur dur to the high osmolarity. Manage with an absorptive cover dressing.
