Vitamin E is a fat-soluble vitamin that contains a family of compounds called tocopherols, including d-alpha, beta, delta and gamma. Naturally occurring tocopherols (d-alpha, beta and gamma) are the most biologically active forms of vitamin E. Vitamin E is crucial to proper cellular function; it protects and supports a wide range of physiological functions through its free radical scavenging activity. An effective chain-breaking antioxidant and free radical scavenger, vitamin E is considered the first line of defence against lipid peroxidation.
