Description:
Felix Clary Weatherall, aka Ross From Friends, is a young producer whose influences range from hip-hop sampling culture to '80s Eurobeat, high-energy, and Italo-disco. He has released on underground labels such as "Lobster Thermin" and "Magic Wire" (R&S), and his exquisite dance tracks, which combine melancholic melodies and low beats, have been attracting a lot of attention. Flying Lotus approached him. In April 2018, he released his first work "Aphelion EP" on Brainfeeder. He has quickly gained a reputation for his exciting sound, which goes beyond the lo-fi house that has been flourishing in recent years, and shows how well he fits in with the label. Family Portrait" is an album that fully demonstrates Felix's experimental and delicate sound production and his excellent sense of melody. The album title, "Family Portrait," suggests that family is a major influence on his musical background. When he recalls his childhood, there was always his father there, either creating music with analog equipment or operating turntables. I grew up talking about music with my father, sharing music with him, and learning a lot about music from him. In 1990, Felix's father, who had built his own sound system and was active in London in the 1980s when raves were popular, acquired a bus and planned to tour Europe with his friends, loading it with a sound system. They headed to France, Belgium, East and West Germany (the return trip would take them through reunified Germany), and beyond, spontaneously starting events in various cities wherever they could find venues, and sharing their passion for high-energy, Italo disco, proto-techno, and other cutting-edge dance music of the day with the locals. He shared his passion with the local people through the most cutting-edge dance music of the time, such as High Energy, Italo Disco, and Proto-Techno. Felix's mother was the one who documented the entire trip, introduced by a group of friends who were on board with the idea. The story of how his parents met and even old VHS videotapes taken with the family tell us that dance music was always at the center of Felix's life.
