Additional Details: The specific exhibition that brought all of these rare, early student works together in one definitive showcase was CINDY SHERMAN. That's me – That's not me. Early work 1975–1977. Organized in collaboration with the [Sammlung Verbund Collection] in Vienna, Austria, the landmark show ran in 2012 and traveled internationally. The images mapped out on this press sheet belong exclusively to the highly experimental, conceptual works Sherman created while studying at Buffalo State College. The 2012 retrospective exhibition was the very first major show dedicated entirely to unearthing and systematically displaying these archives. You can identify the specific series laid out on the sheet from that exhibition: * The "Bus Riders" Series (1976–1975): Visible in the column arrays on the far left and far right. In these, she used transformation techniques to pose as a variety of ordinary people waiting for a bus. [3] * The "Murder Mystery" and "A Play of Selves" Cut-Outs (1975–1976): Shown in the sequences in the central columns. She meticulously cut out tiny black-and-white photographic figures of her various alter-egos to block out narrative storyboards. [3] * Early Portraiture & "Lucy" (1975): The prominent portrait of the smiling young girl with hair clips on the middle-left is one of her earliest experimental transformations into a child character.
