In 1917, Rachmaninoff left everything behind to escape the October Revolution and came to the United States, where he immediately began giving concerts to raise money for his new life. When Thomas Edison learned of this, he invited him to join him in his just-completed recording studio, where he made many recordings. Rachmaninoff and Edison Records enjoyed a good relationship for a while, but the relationship eventually broke down when a recording was released that Rachmaninoff did not approve of, and Rachmaninoff has since moved to the Victor Talking Machine.
