Description:
For the first time, the Spanish discovery label Guerssen is officially reissuing a rare album by a Bay Area Filipino-American band that plays Latin rock and sweet soul reminiscent of Santana. Dakira is a Filipino-American band that was active in San Francisco from the late 60s to the early 70s. As one of the first Asian rock bands to be signed to a major label, the band gained popularity in the local scene and became a regular performer at prominent local venues such as the Fillmore West and Winterland, opening for Cal Jader and Jose Feliciano, and touring with Maro and Buddy Miles. They also toured with Maro and Buddy Miles. The band's name means "great" or "noble" in Tagalog. This is the only album they left for Epic Records in 1972. It is a hidden masterpiece of Latin rock and funk that has been widely loved beyond the boundaries of rock and rare groove. This is the first official reissue of the album 50 years after its original release. The fuzzed-out guitars are acidic and psychedelic, but the groovy organ, percussive rhythm section, and Tagalog, Spanish, and English songs crash together to create a wonderful hybrid style of Latin rock and sweet soul, reminiscent of Santana and Azteca. The result is a hybrid style reminiscent of Santana and Azteca, with a Latin Rock and Sweet Soul feel. Released on the Spanish discovery label Guerssen.
