The Actisense EMU-1-BAS Engine Monitoring Unit is a powerful analog-to-NMEA 2000 gateway that allows boaters to display critical engine data from traditional analog engines on modern NMEA 2000 networks and multifunction displays (MFDs). Designed for seamless integration, the EMU-1 converts analog sensor signals into standardized NMEA 2000 messages, giving you real-time engine monitoring without replacing existing engines or sensors.
Ideal for inboard, outboard, sterndrive, and generator engines, the EMU-1-BAS brings older or non-NMEA engines into today’s digital marine electronics ecosystem, enhancing situational awareness, safety, and performance monitoring.
The Actisense EMU-1 allows analog engine information—such as RPM, oil pressure, coolant temperature, alternator voltage, fuel rate, and alarm states—to be displayed on compatible chartplotters and engine displays from leading marine electronics brands. This eliminates the need for additional gauges and centralizes engine data on your helm display.
The EMU-1-BAS supports multiple analog inputs and configurable sensor types, making it compatible with a wide range of engines and sensor standards. Actisense’s configuration software allows precise calibration for accurate data translation across your NMEA 2000 network.
Designed for straightforward installation, the EMU-1-BAS connects directly to standard analog engine sensors and plugs into an existing NMEA 2000 backbone using industry-standard connectors. Once configured, engine data is automatically transmitted across the network to compatible displays and systems.
As with all Actisense products, the EMU-1 is engineered for harsh marine environments. Its robust housing and proven electronics ensure dependable performance in both saltwater and freshwater applications.

Actisense is a global leader in marine data connectivity solutions. The EMU-1-BAS exemplifies their commitment to reliability, compatibility, and innovation—allowing boaters to modernize engine monitoring while preserving existing hardware.
Upgrade your helm with the Actisense NMEA 2000 Engine Monitoring Unit – EMU-1-BAS and enjoy clear, centralized, real-time engine data on your marine electronics display.
Instead of squinting at individual, fogged-up analog gauges, the EMU-1 allows you to overlay engine data onto your chartplotter. You can monitor:
Engine RPM (via alternator "W" terminal, ignition coil, or sender).
Oil Pressure & Water Temperature.
Transmission Pressure & Temperature.
Fuel Level, Trim Position, and Battery Voltage.
Engine Hours (calculated and logged internally by the EMU-1).
A single EMU-1 is flexible enough to monitor a single engine with many sensors or basic parameters for two engines (e.g., Dual RPM, Dual Temp, and Dual Pressure), provided the engines share a common ground.
Because not all senders are the same, the EMU-1 is highly "tuneable." Using the Actisense Toolkit software, you can select from pre-defined sender curves (like VDO, Teleflex, or Stewart Warner) or create your own custom calibration for rare or vintage sensors.
| Feature | Details |
| Model Number | EMU-1 |
| Inputs | 6 Gauge Inputs, 4 Alarm Inputs, 2 Tacho Inputs |
| Voltage Range | 9V to 35V DC (Works on 12V or 24V boats) |
| NMEA 2000 Connectivity | Integrated NMEA 2000 Micro-C Male connector |
| NMEA 2000 LEN | 1 (Uses 50mA of network power) |
| Protection | IP65 rated case (Electronic "potted" internals) |
| Mounting | Bulkhead or DIN Rail (with optional kit) |
To set up the EMU-1 (choosing your engine type, calibrating gauges, etc.), you cannot use your chartplotter. You must have an Actisense NGT-1 or NGX-1 (PC Gateway) to connect the EMU-1 to a Windows computer running the free Actisense Toolkit software.
Without the NGT-1/NGX-1 gateway, the EMU-1 will remain in its default factory configuration.
Isolation: Features 2500V galvanic isolation to protect your NMEA 2000 network from engine-side electrical noise or surges.
Alarm Monitoring: It can digitize "dummy lights" (on/off switches) into digital alarms that pop up on your MFD.
Future Proof: firmware is flash-upgradable as new NMEA 2000 PGNs are developed.
"If you are 'sharing' a sender with an existing analog gauge on your dash, the EMU-1 must be set to 'Parallel' mode in the software. This ensures the EMU-1 doesn't interfere with the voltage reading the physical gauge needs to move its needle. If you've removed the old gauges entirely, set it to 'Series' mode to provide the necessary excitation current to the sensor."
