Pretty vintage rolled gold heart locket with engraving on the front and a plain back. The inside has intact inserts for 2 photographs and the locket opens and closes securely. I have put it on a modern Italian heavily gold plated sterling silver curb chain with a pearl and green onyx charm to create a beautiful and unique necklace.

Container jewellery to house tokens and special items have been around since Egyptian times and the first  “lockets” held medicinal herbs, religious relics, prayers or perfumes. Elizabeth 1 is thought to have owned one of the first sentimental lockets which was a ring depicting tiny portraits of both herself and her mother Anne Boleyn. The locket is marked rolled gold and measures 2cm x 1.8cm. The chain is adjustable and can be worn at 40cm, 42cm or 45cm.
