A Cha Pan is a tea tray often used in the Gong Fu tea ceremony. It serves two purposes - to hold the tea set and to collect water and tea poured or spilled in the brewing process.
In Gong Fu brewing, warm water is poured into every vessel used in the brewing process - the brewer, pitcher, aroma cups, and sipping cups. Then, the water is poured onto the Cha Pan where it will trickle through the decorations to be collected in the tray below. You can also pour out the water after the first rinse of the tea leaves in the same way.
After use, make sure to empty the tray and let it dry completely.
