Pretty vintage c1970 rolled gold locket with floral engraving on a white pearl and gold fill chain necklace.

The locket can be easily slipped off the chain fastening so that you can add your own favourite charms or pendants making it a truly versatile and beautiful piece of jewellery. 

The necklace can be worn with the clasp at the back for a luxe, classic look or the clasp and pendant can be worn at the front for a totally different look to compliment different necklines.

Container jewellery to house tokens and special items have been around since Egyptian times and the first “lockets” held medicinal herbs, religious relics, prayers or perfumes. Elizabeth 1 is thought to have owned one of the first sentimental lockets which was a ring depicting tiny portraits of both herself and her mother Anne Boleyn. Before the invention of photography locks of hair were often put in lockets to remind you of loved ones. The popularity of lockets as a keepsake grew with the widespread use of photography and endures today.

The pearl necklace, chain and clasp measures 53cm. The locket is stamped rolled gold and is 4cm x 2.5cm including the bail. The pearls are 9mm.

This unique piece of jewellery may have signs of wear due to its history. It is beautifully imperfect and should be treated with love and care. This locket is in excellent vintage condition.
