Abbott’s Aromatic Bitters was one of the most famous cocktail bitters from the 19th Century and had a reputation as one of the finest brands of Aromatic Bitters to be used in classic cocktails such as the Manhattan, Old Fashioned and numerous others.
Abbott’s Aromatic Bitters, once known as Abbott’s Angostura Bitters, was originally produced in Baltimore from 1872 until the early 1950’s when the company ceased production. Tempus Fugit Spirits acquired the legal trademark for Abbott’s Bitters to produce a version of this famous recipe once again.
The principal ingredient in Abbott’s Aromatic Bitters was angostura (tree) bark. Angostura bark bitters were common during most of the 19th century, originating as a flavoring alternative to cinchona bark (quinine) and became a highly desired and distinctive style of aromatic bitters for cocktails of all types.
