DPDT stands for Double Pole, Double Throw and is a specialized 3-way toggle switch commonly used in guitars equipped with three pickups. Unlike traditional SPDT (Single Pole, Double Throw) and SPST (Single Pole, Single Throw) switches, a DPDT switch features two independent circuits that can be switched simultaneously, allowing for additional wiring flexibility and more complex pickup combinations.
