The Scent
Rain is one of the cleanest, and most delicate, fragrances in the Library-sweet, fresh, with the incredibly powerful smell of fresh rain. Why so powerful? Some believe there a deep-seated link between the smell of rain and the expectation of growth that drives those visceral feelings. But whatever the basis, the power of the scent of Rain is undeniable.

The Inspiration
She couldn’t believe the heat. Wasn’t Los Angeles supposed to always have great weather? Well, not in August, or at least not this particular August. And then a sun shower! Without a cloud in the sky a gentle rain fell, not much more than a mist, but it was enough to change everything. She could feel the tension leave her body like a weight.

Demeter was conceived in 1996, with a unique and ever expanding perspective on fragrance. The original mission was to capture the beautiful smells of the garden and nature in wearable form. The Demeter name itself was inspired by the Greek Goddess of Agriculture. The first three fragrances were Dirt, Grass and Tomato, and were sold in a few stores in NYC.

Today, with fragrances from Baby Powder and Pure Soap to Gin & Tonic, Play-Doh, Vanilla Cake Batter and even Pizza, we have radically expanded our olfactory goals and geographic reach. Not only can you now buy Demeter fragrances from Apple Blossom to Zombie, but you can buy them from New York to Beijing, and from Moscow to London.
