Caprylic acid belongs to MCT (medium chain triglycerides), i.e. saturated fatty acids with an average carbon chain length: from 6 to 10 carbon atoms. Caprylic acid contains 8 carbon atoms (C8).

Like all fats, MCT is characterized by a simpler digestion and absorption process than other types of fats: it does not require the participation of bile and lipase, it is absorbed directly into the bloodstream, so it can be a source of quickly available energy.
