I love Victorian cube puzzles though am picky about which ones--this one, with birds on all sides, is perhaps my favorite I've seen, and the only of its kind I have found. It remains housed in its original box (though with one edge lost and a repaired split in the lid) as well as with five hand-colored plates showing the pictures on each side, the sixth shown on the lid. (Helpful I must say when solving it for the first time.)  Personally, I'd put the box away and keep the cubes on the table--the colors on it are gorgeous, the birds a great mix of familiar and exotic, and who can ever have too many beautiful  birds around? C. 1870s or so I believe.

Box measures 8 5/8” x 7 1/8” x 2 3/8”. Cubes are 1 1/2” each side. I've documented four of six sides. Puzzle itself in very good condition. Box missing one edge and while the lid will slide in on top without the right edge it does not hold secured. Some wear to a couple of the plates.
