The vintage rugs offered in the Hemp Bouquet collection were all handwoven in the Anatolian countryside by village women for their home use. Most date from the mid 1900s. There are regional similarities in design and motifs, yet no two rugs are the same and the diversity is astounding.

This striking rug was woven with natural-colored, handspun hemp and goat hair by village women living in the inland Black Sea region of Anatolia. One end is finished with interlocking warp loops, and the other is rolled and stitched to prevent raveling. 

Goat and hemp are ages old partners in traditional Anatolia. The marriage of alternating broad and narrow goat hair bands balanced against a natural hemp background makes a simple and bold cultural statement. Expansive size, a decorator’s dream, and rustic to the core. Perfect for many settings.
