One of two tintypes today purchased from a favorite dealer in Cohoes, NY--and total love at first sight with this one, which the dealer referred to as "The Lone Horseman." Indeed. And while most everything feels existential to me these days, certainly this portrait of a very solitary seeming, very young (Native?) man in his hat on his horse out in the land with smoky looking sky sure does. The smoky swirls of the sky appear to be a flaw of development, but what an excellent accident, as if fire--or even a tornado!--on the horizon.
