The Irish words “Barr an Uisce” literally mean “above the water.” Pronounced “bar on ishka,” if you feel like torturing yourself. Barr an Uisce is also the Irish name given to Barraniskey, which is a town land set in the heart of the County of Wicklow, on the East Coast of Ireland. The Irish word “Uisce “ or “water” in English, was used during the time Irish monks first distilled what we now know to be Whiskey. They called it “Uisce Beatha” meaning “Water of Life.” Damn straight it is! Known as the Garden of Ireland, Wicklow represents all that is stunning in the Irish countryside.

The founder of “Barr an Uisce” Irish Whiskey, Ian Jones, comes from a small village just outside of Barraniskey. Ian’s family has a long history in the Spirit business. The ambition of Barr An Uisce is to celebrate all the fine things Ireland has to offer while honoring the times gone by. We love Ireland, we love Whiskey and perhaps most importantly – we love Irish Whiskey. To say we are excited about what the distillery has to offer is a bit of an understatement. Just a bit.

Matured in first fill bourbon barrels for four years and finished in Oloroso casks for six months, we can characterize this Whisky as your classic everyday dram.
