We Two Stood in a Meadow
(Stóðum Tvö í Túni)
We Two Stood in a Meadow is a traditional Icelandic love poem from the Víglundar saga, dating back to the 15th Century
This arrangement for brass band incorporates various bird song and the opportunity to experiment with space and the positioning of performers
Icelandic translation to English:
We two stood in a meadow,
the goddess Hlín took me
Into her arms, the beautiful lady,
fair-haired and cried bitterly.
Tears running from her eyes,
told me of her will and pain,
wiped a snow-white cloth
on her pale coloured cheeks.
