If you aren’t familiar with packrafting, one of the newer sports in North America, it can seem like these boats are too good to be true! They fit into a backpack (no more carrying around a big bulky canoe or kay) and are surprisingly easy to inflate with the screw-on airbag where you “catch” air and compress it into the boat. After about ten scoops of air from the airbag, the vessel is 90% inflated. A few more puffs from your mouth or an optional (not-included) pump, and your raft is buoyant and ready to go. Another surprising feature of these inflatable boats is how sturdy they actually are. When people first see them, they think they might tear easily, but they are very durable. In the improbable event of damage to the material, MRS offers a three-year warranty. Our good friend had his stuck in an underwater cave for months, and even after that crazy adventure, he was able to use his MRS packraft.

MATERIAL

The material is hand-made from high-quality urethane-coated nylon (not PVC or Hypalon like other cheaper boats on the market). This material is light, abrasion-resistant, UV tolerant, non-ageing, and flexible even at low temperatures. It has been specially treated to make a smooth, scratch-resistant surface. This creates a supple material for easy packing and folding. It is also easy to repair in the unlikely event that the packraft should need a patch.

MRS fully supports sustainable development and is deeply involved in the research and development of TPU-coated fabric. The TPU fabric in the MRS packrafts is all Swiss Bluesign®-certified, meaning that they are environmental-friendly and manufactured in a safe workspace.

DISTINCTIVE FEATURES

The Minnow is an ultralight, easy to fold packraft made from ultra-thin coated fabric, with a hull weight of 1.5kg and 1.85kg fully equipped with a fin. Although the Minnow is an ultra-light design, it additionally features front and rear centered seating, which helps to improve its ability to glide in water. The product has also been designed for durability, with the bottom material covering some of the vulnerable parts of the packraft. The ultra-thin fabric makes it super easy to fold the Minnow for storage.

There are two available colours: white and olive.

The white option provides a cooler ride as it does not absorb heat from the sun. This also prevents fluctuations in air pressure, a convenient feature when you are in the sun all day. The white fabric is more susceptible to yellowing than other colors when exposed to ultraviolet rays. It is normal that the sunlight breaks down the molecules in the fabric, causing it to yellow over time. Store it in a shade location after use.

The total weight of the white Minnow is only 1.9 kg (4.2 lbs), another advantage for the ultra-light packer. This fabric is extremely thin and if you use the Minnow for activities that involve a lot of contact with rough surfaces, please be aware that the fabric may tear or become damaged.

The advantages of the olive Minow are that it is a great camouflage color, the coating is slightly thicker than the white one, the scratch resistance is improved, and it is still light and easy to fold. The total weight of the olive Minnow is only 2.15 kg (4.7 lbs).
