An ivory silk shantung collar drapes over the shoulders of this early 1950s black rayon crepe cocktail dress. Wide black velvet ribbon is threaded through the front of the collar and comes to a point at the center back. It is accented with a sparkling rhinestone brooch on the left side (removable for cleaning). The cap sleeves are hidden underneath the wide collar. Medium-sized shoulder pads are attached inside. Darts shape the bust area. The straight skirt has a kick pleat in back. The double-pleated, diagonal hip pockets are functional. The rayon crepe fabric is semi-sheer; it is lined only at the upper front section of the skirt, as you can see from our photos. The dress has a metal zipper at the mid-back, but not all the way to the top of the dress. In very good condition, the dress has thread belt loops, but no original belt, and the silk collar is a bit rumpled at the back of the neck, try though we did to steam it flat, after dry-cleaning. There is a tiny pinhole in the collar, where the brooch has been moved in the past. This elegant 1950s cocktail dress has a very cute label, Mademoiselle Juliette!
