An elegant black 1960s evening gown and matching full-length coat by Bernetti in lustrous alaskine fabric, this set is lavishly trimmed with clear, prong-set rhinestones. Alaskine is a fabulous fabric blending 35% silk and 65% wool fibers, with a slubbed surface texture similar to silk shantung. The evening gown is sleeveless, with a scoop neckline, and diagonal darts from bust to high hip, for subtle shaping of its basically tubular silhouette. Rows of sparkling rhinestones embellish the neckline. There is a small slit in the right side hem, for ease of walking. The dress fastens with a metal zipper in back, and it is lined with a sheer, muslin-type fabric, probably rayon. The matching, collarless evening coat has rhinestones around the neckline and all the way down to, and around, the hem, as well as trimming the sleeve hems. It has no fastenings and is fully lined with black rayon crepe. This authentic 1960s evening dress and coat has two issues to note: some light discoloration at the edges of the dress underarms, and a bit of puckering along the back of the coat's hem, where the rhinestone-trimmed hem panel is attached to the rest of the coat. This could probably be improved by a professional pressing, but should not be too noticeable when the set is worn, since it is all the way at the bottom of the coat. Worthy of an 1960s Audrey Hepburn movie character, this gorgeous set will be best worn in fall or winter, since the wool content of the alaskine fabric makes it heavier than 100% silk would be.
