Styles like this 1930s dress were especially popular during the Great Depression, when a simple-but-elegant cocktail dress could be accessorized to change up its look, for the many ladies who had to make do with fewer dresses in their wardrobe. The fabric is crepe-backed rayon "liquid" satin. Other details include: a capelet-style collar, U-shaped neckline, and a slightly dropped waist seam above gathers at the front of the skirt on each side. It is unlined. The tapered long sleeves drape a bit at the wrist, as shown, with multiple tiny darts at each elbow, and a single snap closing the small slit at each wrist. The skirt appears to have been hemmed up to multiple different lengths. It currently has a 7" hem, with marks to show that previous hems were 3. 5" and 5. 5". It has narrow, metal side seam zipper. In good, wearable condition, the dress has one small mend at the front of the skirt. Also, the sleeve hem tape and the lower edges of the sleeve hems are faded to a purplish color. The satin fabric is sturdy and held up to drycleaning quite well, pretty impressive for a dress around 90 years old!
