Inspired by the majestic Taranaki Maunga, the stitch pattern reflects its conical shape and magma core.

Mt Taranaki, the second highest mountain in Aotearoa’s (New Zealand’s) North Island, after Mount Ruapehu. The form of this maunga and its magma core inspired this slip stitch pattern.

What is Camel Down Fibre?
It is a rare fibre from Bactrian Camels found in Inner Mongolia and China. It is harvested by hand in moulting season.

From The Knit Shepherd Studio 
Sarah Shepherd, a textile designer for film and television and hand-knitting industries locally and internationally, she lived and travelled around the globe,  returning to Aotearoa in 2021. Having always had an interest in hand-kniting and exploring new techniques and ways to work with yarn she started exploring digital knitting machines and her love of combining hand and digital crafts to push both practices. This lead to Knit Shepherd Studio, which she set up to tell the stories of NZ’s origin in beautiful textiles. It's a small-scale prototyping lab and textile artist studio for New Zealand's natural fibres.
