This black velvet and silver sequins evening top by Oscar de la Renta dates from the late 1980s. The blouse fastens in front with hooks and eyes at the gathered, peplum-styled waist, and small snaps behind the attached, beaded and sequined panel that fills in the deep V-neck at the center. The bracelet-length sleeves have puffed shoulders with medium-sized shoulder pads, to evoke a retro, 1940s silhouette that was popular in the 80s. The mid-weight velvet is most likely rayon or a rayon blend. The top is fully lined with black silk, except for the sequined panel, which is backed with fine black mesh. This 1980s designer blouse by Oscar de la Renta will pair well with a skirt or wide-leg evening trousers, for an easy-to-wear but fabulous look, perfect for a holiday event, or your next Zoom cocktail party! It is in very good condition, with one minor scuff on the nap/surface of the velvet of the left sleeve (see close-up photo).
