This 700 year old folk art form originates from the Bhilwara district of Rajasthan. This style of painting is traditionally done on a long piece of cloth or canvas, known as Phad. The artisan uses vegetable colors and brushes made of squirrel hair. These paintings are a part of an elaborate ritualistic song and dance performance by "Bhopas", folk balladeers who travel across villages to perform. Phad Paintings are known for their story telling. This painting depicts the Lord Krishna childhood stories. It is an exquisite piece of art where the master artist has used natural vegetable colours.
