Building on the winning concept of previous versions, Shimano has taken a further step forward: larger pulleys, a more efficient design, and advanced protection.
With the arrival of 12-speed drivetrains, efficiency is becoming an increasingly important feature. For this reason, Shimano decided to revise some components and add further details. Thus, the replacement of the pulleys, which are now larger (13 teeth), greatly improves chain management, gear shifting, and efficiency on the new 12-speed cassettes. The pulleys do not have the Narrow Wide profile; nevertheless, functionality is improved thanks to the slightly curved design of the cage itself, which allows managing the longer chain with a relatively compact cage.
The icing on the cake is the new lower bumper, mounted outside the cage to prevent damage to the structure when the chain is on the smaller sprockets, or when the terrain presents surprises.
